I have intermittently complained about iSight performance on my MBP. Well, after having spent big bucks to have better lighting installed in my den, one side effect is that all of the sudden my hit rate for accurate reading of ISBN's is about 80% as opposed to 20%. It is still better the glossier the paper and still in my opinion is not as accurate as some of the competitors, but all-in-all now it is quite usable. Not clear why it needs brighter light than for example Booxster. But for others having trouble, brighter diffuse light may help.

iSight Apologies!
Re: iSight Apologies!
Light is a big helper, the larger the contrast the easier it for the computer to pick out the thickness of the lines. We do have to improve our accuracy, especially in low light conditions. The apologies are ours, you shouldn't have to worry about light conditions.
Re: iSight Apologies!
I think the iSight's low-light failings are Apple's, not Bruji's, FWIW.
If lighting conditions are dim, turning up the display brightness of my MBP works like a charm every time for me.
